Job summary

HM Treasury's Growth Strategy Unit seeks an exceptional leader to shape the government's growth and living standards agenda. You will advise the Chancellor, engage with No 10 and Cabinet Office, and oversee cross-cutting policy projects across HMT to drive evidence-based growth.

You will lead a diverse team, foster external partnerships, and deliver strategic insight through economic analysis, ensuring consistency and ambitious delivery of growth priorities.

Qualifications

  • Outstanding people leadership experience: setting strategic direction and leading high-performing teams.
  • Sound judgement and strategic vision; knowledge of Economic Strategy tenets.
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills; ability to gain confidence of senior partners and Ministers.
  • Ability to absorb and interrogate data and communicate it clearly to support decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to the Chancellor and Treasury Ministers on growth and economic strategy, integrating work from multiple HMT teams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with No 10, No 10 North, and central government partners to shape the agenda.
  • Engage in external research and debates on growth with communications, business engagement and inward investment leads.
  • Lead Growth Economics Branch to incorporate economic analysis into policy-making and guide the analytical work programme.
  • Oversee the Growth Strategy Unit project function, commissioning studies to inform policy challenges.
  • Demonstrate inclusive leadership and develop a diverse team; promote diversity and belonging.
