Job description

The Head of Fleet and Driver Management will lead the development, implementation, and governance of fleet and driver management standards across the business. The role will ensure clear accountability by supporting divisions to manage day-to-day fleet operations while maintaining central oversight of compliance, safety, and performance. Responsible for driving continuous improvement, ensuring regulatory compliance, and embedding effective fleet governance that supports operational efficiency and organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fleet Governance & Compliance - Continual development and maintenance of fleet standards, policies, and compliance frameworks aligned with legislation, Operator Licence requirements, and company policy.
  • Divisional Oversight - Provide strategic direction and governance while divisions retain ownership of day-to-day fleet and driver management.
  • Management of Road Risk - Lead road risk management, promoting safe driving, vehicle integrity, and proactive risk mitigation in partnership with relevant teams.
  • Performance & Reporting - Monitor and report on fleet performance, safety, and reliability; use data insights to drive improvement and accountability.
  • Supplier & Procurement Collaboration - Work with procurement to optimise supplier performance, contractual value, and lifecycle cost efficiency.
  • Driver Management - Oversee driver and agency driver compliance, performance, and training standards.
  • Fleet Resilience - Ensure robust contingency planning for Vehicle Off Road (VOR) events to maintain operational continuity.
  • Technology & Innovation - Champion digital tools and telematics to enhance visibility, reporting, and operational control.
  • Culture & Continuous Improvement - Foster a culture of compliance, efficiency, and safety across all fleet and driver operations.
  • When considered necessary or appropriate by management you may be required to carry out any duties considered within your skill and competence to assist the smooth running of the business.
What We're Looking For
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Operator's Licence requirements and associated compliance obligations.
  • Strong understanding of operational mechanisms within multi-site fleet environments.
  • Proven experience managing large, mixed-use vehicle fleets, with both strategic and operational accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and govern fleet management systems, standards, and compliance frameworks.
  • Advanced analytical and reporting skills, including use of telematics and fleet performance platforms to inform decision‑making.
  • Commercially astute, with experience collaborating with procurement to drive cost efficiency and supplier performance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence effectively across divisional and functional boundaries.
  • Line Management experience.
