Job description

SRM are pleased to be supporting a complex logistics group based in London, as it looks to appoint a Head of Financial Control and Reporting to own the integrity of its financial reporting and control environment. Our client is seeking a candidate with strong historical and current balance sheet experience

This role would suit a candidate coming from a larger business, for example a Head of Financial Reporting. Ideally, our client is looking for someone with a varied skillset, who has worked in businesses where best practice in the quality of reporting is firmly embedded, and who has also operated in organisations where complex process change was required.

We would also be interested in candidates operating at Head of Finance or Group Financial Controller level, provided they have a rounded skillset. This is a broad role with multiple touchpoints across the financial control environment, so breadth of experience is key.

Reporting to the Group Finance Director, you will lead a team spanning financial reporting, finance operations and business partnering, with high visibility across the business, the wider group and stakeholders

Financial reporting and control

  • Own the monthly close, balance sheet and cash flow reporting, and the review of key reconciliations and intercompany balances
  • Prepare and present results to the Board and group shareholders including variance analysis
  • Lead external audit and statutory reporting, and make sure judgements and accounting policies are well supported
  • Maintain a robust, compliant control environment, including UK SOX

Planning and cash forecasting

  • Run the annual business plan and quarterly forecasts for working capital, cash flow and balance sheet
  • Manage the rolling cash flow forecast and weekly cash reporting to the group
  • Make sure assumptions are sound, documented and challenged

Finance operations and treasury

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, retail accounting areas
  • Make sure processes are clear, controlled and efficient, with accurate reporting and fast resolution of issues
  • Manage cash and deposits to get the best return, within delegated authority limits

Tax, audit and compliance

  • Own direct and indirect tax compliance, including VAT and corporation tax, working with the group tax team
  • Deliver the internal audit and SOX control-testing programmes and make sure improvement actions are followed through

Systems and leadership

  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary finance team
  • Drive improvement in financial systems and coach budget holders on policy and process

About you:

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA and/or ACCA) with significant post-qualification experience in a similar role
  • Strong financial accounting background and proven people management
  • Confident influencer with strong communication and negotiation skills
