Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent.
  • Strong background in financial control, audit, or senior accounting roles.
  • Excellent technical accounting skills with a strong eye for detail.
  • Proven experience improving controls and balance sheet processes.
  • Confident communicator able to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Structured, proactive, and comfortable in a fast‑moving environment.

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial accounts.
  • Oversee the management accounts function, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Own the full balance sheet, ensuring accurate reconciliations and strong governance.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance internal financial controls and risk management processes.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to provide financial insight and challenge.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a skilled finance team.
  • Support external audits, statutory compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive improvements across systems, reporting, and financial processes.

Sharp Consultancy are partnering with a well‑established and rapidly growing UK manufacturing and retail organisation, who are seeking a technically strong and ambitious Head of Financial Controls to oversee its financial reporting, control environment, and accounting governance.

This business operates at scale and requires a strong technical leader to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across all finance processes.

The Role:

As Head of Financial Controls, you will take a leading role in managing both the Financial Accounts and Management Accounts functions. You will hold full balance sheet ownership, strengthen internal controls, and drive high‑quality reporting to support strategic decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities:
