Head of Finance – Bellway
Join Bellway’s Divisions Senior Management Team as Head of Finance, driving financial performance and position across the Divisions business. The role reports to the Finance Director and sits in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop the division business plan in partnership with functional heads, ensuring alignment to the Group’s strategic objectives.
- Own the budget and three‑year forecast, delivering accurate, well‑managed financial plans.
- Review and challenge proposed land acquisitions, including financial assumptions and VAT implications.
- Act as the primary divisional contact for HR, payroll, IT and fleet matters.
- Lead and manage the divisional finance team to maximise accuracy, quality and efficiency.
- Manage interim and year‑end processes with external auditors, ensuring timely sign‑off.
- Oversee month‑end procedures, providing timely management information to the division and Group.
- Deliver treasury management, producing accurate monthly and daily cash‑flow forecasts.
- Prepare and submit Group returns (year‑end, half‑year, budgets, pay review, bonus calculations, national statistics, prompt payments).
- Ensure compliance with all taxes relating to the division (VAT, CIS, payroll taxes, corporation tax).
- Collaborate with Sales to forecast valuation revenues.
Qualifications & Skills
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
- Post‑qualified experience in accounting and financial control, preferably as Head of Finance or equivalent.
- Proven experience leading month‑end close, working with external auditors and delivering profit & loss, cash‑flow, forecasting and planning.
- Experience developing and leading a finance team.
- Excellent analytical, numerical and report‑writing skills.
- Strong administration, organisational, time‑management and communication abilities.
- Problem‑solving, listening and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- High attention to detail, self‑stimulation and teamwork.
- Proficient IT skills, adept at Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and quick to adapt to new systems.
