Job summary

Brent Council is recruiting for a Head of Finance on an initial temporary contract of six months, with potential for extension or permanency for the right candidate. The role is hybrid and based at HA9 0FJ in London, offering a negotiable rate depending on experience.

You will lead financial accounting, budgeting, strategic management accounting and financial planning, advise senior Members and directors, and deputise for the s151 officer.

Qualifications

• CCAB qualified accountant with post-qualification experience and CPD.
• Experience managing staff or large teams in a complex organisation.
• Proven ability to advise on financial planning, accounting and control in a large, complex organisation.

• Provide high-quality financial accounting, strategic management accounting, budgeting and financial planning and commercial advice to a department or function within the council.
• Provide advice directly to and manage relationships with leading Members, Strategic Directors and other senior managers across the council, and to manage comparable relationships with major partners and contractors.
• To lead and manage significant financial transactional services and/or operational management services.
• To deputise for the statutory chief finance officer (s151 officer).
• To identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency and enhance financial control.
• To contribute to the leadership and management of the Council and of the department.

I am currently representing Brent Council who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Head of Finance this role will be based at: HA9 0FJ Hybrid

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality financial accounting, strategic management accounting, budgeting and financial planning and commercial advice to a department or function within the council.
• Provide advice directly to and manage relationships with leading Members, Strategic Directors and other senior managers across the council, and to manage comparable relationships with major partners and contractors.
• To lead and manage significant financial transactional services and/or operational management services.
• To be capable of deputising for the statutory chief finance officer (s151 officer).
• To take a leading responsibility, within own area of work, for identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency and enhance financial control.
• To make a significant contribution to the leadership and management of the Council and of the department.

Qualifications

• CCAB Qualified Accountant (Preferably CIPFA), with significant post qualification experience and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Track record of achievement at a management level in a similarly large and complex organisation, including managing staff or directing the activities of wider groups of staff, including those where no formal management line exists
• Demonstrable experience of advising on financial planning, accounting and control in a similarly large and complex organisation, including applying complex techniques to influence and improve decision making.
