A consulting firm in London is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance to lead its finance function during a transition period. The role includes managing a small team, ensuring financial compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making. Ideal candidates will possess relevant qualifications and expertise in charity financial management. This position offers a salary between £53,000-£56,000 and hybrid working conditions.
Altum Consulting are partnering with a national charity supporting vulnerable communities to seek an experienced Interim Head of Finance on a 9-month FTC to lead its finance function during a key transition period.
This is a pivotal role, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of financial data, while driving collaboration, insight, and continuous improvement across the organisation. You'll lead a small team and act as a trusted business partner to senior leaders, enabling effective decision-making and strong financial stewardship.
Lead, motivate and develop the finance team to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful reporting.
Oversee financial management including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with tax, VAT, and PAYE regulations.
Produce monthly management accounts with meaningful variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Strengthen financial controls and ensure all statutory and audit requirements are met.
Partner with teams across the organisation to improve financial understanding and accountability.
Oversee group accounting and consolidation, including the review of a trading subsidiary.
Support operational areas such as property, health & safety, technology providers, and GDPR compliance.
You are an experienced finance leader who combines technical expertise with a collaborative, hands-on approach. You'll have a strong grasp of charity financial management and thrive on improving systems and processes.
Proven experience in both management and financial accounting, with a track record of leading or managing audits.
Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
Strong people management skills and experience developing high-performing teams.
Understanding of VAT, Gift Aid, PAYE/P11d, and GDPR compliance.
Advanced Excel and finance systems knowledge (experience with Xledger desirable).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-finance colleagues.
Proactive, analytical, and resilient, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Salary between £53,000-£56,000 (depending on experience)
Hybrid working - 40% office-based in London
