A respected legal firm in the UK is looking for a Head of Family Law to manage their department and lead a team of solicitors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Family Law and demonstrable leadership skills. The Head of Family Law will oversee the departments casework, supervise and develop junior team members, manage operational performance, and contribute to strategic direction and growth. This is an ideal role for a senior solicitor with exceptional technical ability, client-care skills, and proven leadership experience.
Lead and manage the Family Law department across multiple offices.
Handle a varied and complex caseload, including divorce, finance, children matters, cohabitation issues, and domestic abuse cases.
Supervise, train, and mentor solicitors, paralegals, and trainees.
Ensure quality assurance, compliance, and risk management within the department.
Contribute to strategic planning, growth initiatives, and departmental development.
Support team performance, fee generation, and operational improvements.
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and expansion of the department.
Work closely with senior management to refine processes and client service delivery.
Build and maintain strong client and external-stakeholder relationships.
Represent the firm at networking events, seminars, and community engagements.
Significant PQE in Family Law, ideally with prior team-leadership or department-management experience.
Deep technical expertise in private family matters, with confidence handling complex financial and children cases.
Strong leadership skills with a collaborative and supportive management approach.
Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to business development and growth.
Exceptional client-care skills and the professionalism required for sensitive, high-stakes matters.
Robust understanding of regulatory obligations, risk, and compliance within a legal environment.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
