Job summary

The Gallery Trust in Oxfordshire is seeking an experienced Head of English to lead the English curriculum while continuing to teach across a specialist setting. This full-time role is offered on a temp-to-perm basis with an immediate start.

You will drive improvements in teaching and learning, adapt learning for students with ASC and SEMH needs, and work with senior leaders to support whole-school improvement. Salary is dependent on experience and paid weekly via PAYE.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Proven experience teaching English within a secondary or specialist setting.
• Previous curriculum leadership, Head of Department, or middle leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of ASC and SEMH needs.
• Experience adapting learning for students with additional needs.
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the English curriculum across the school.
• Drive improvements in teaching, learning, and achievement within English.
• Teach English across a range of age groups and abilities.
• Adapt learning to meet the needs of students with ASC and SEMH needs.
• Monitor pupil progress and curriculum effectiveness.
• Support and develop colleagues within the department.
• Work closely with senior leaders to contribute to whole-school improvement.
• Promote literacy across the wider curriculum.
