Job summary

Sunsave Group is seeking a senior engineering leader to scale our engineering function as we prepare for Series B. You will shape architectural direction, own the AI platform, and drive delivery velocity across solar, energy storage, EVs, and optimisation layers. You’ll mentor teams, hire strategically, and set high output standards.

You should be a hands-on builder who codes today, makes trade-offs, and has a clear view on AI leverage and cross-functional impact.

Qualifications

• Proven engineering leader with experience scaling teams.
• Experience building at pace in early-stage startups (Series A–C).
• Desirable domain experience in energy/optimisation or fintech.
• Hands-on builder who writes production code and designs systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and transform the engineering team to raise output and pace.
• Define and own multi-year technical strategy across solar, batteries, EVs, energy supply, AI layers and dispatch.
• Stay close to the work: write production code and shape architecture.
• Own the AI platform and enable AI-driven workflows across departments.
• Represent Engineering at leadership level with investors and cross-functionally with Product.

Requirements

• A proven engineering leader: you've led engineering teams before, or you're a strong lead ready to step up. You'll be our senior-most technical person as we scale through Series B
,
• Startup experience: you've built at early-stage startups (Series A to Series C) and know what shipping at that pace and stage actually takes
,
• (Desirable) Domain experience: you've worked in energy/optimisation or fintech; you'll be working across both
,
• Hands-on builder and architect: you write production code today, design systems, and make trade-offs beyond individual features, and have done so in early-stage environments. You know when to hack and when to invest
,
• A culture setter: you set the bar on output and intensity and hold people to it. Engineers who've worked with you got better because you were there. You've hired exceptional people before
,
• Genuinely AI-native: you use AI daily in your own workflow and in what you build on the side; shipping AI features in a previous role is a plus. You have a clear point of view on where AI creates real leverage
,
• Knowledge of our stack or appetite to learn: Python for AI/data science; TypeScript, React/Next.js, Node.js, Postgres and AWS across the rest.

What the job involves

• Lead and transform the engineering team: raise the bar on output and pace, mentor and unblock the team - our default is leverage over headcount: make the engineers we have faster before adding more. Own hiring where required as we scale toward Series B

• Engineering strategy and architecture: define and own the multi-year technical strategy and architecture across solar, batteries, EVs, energy supply, the optimisation/dispatch layer and AI. You'll decide what we build, what we buy, and what we hire for, including bringing in deep specialist talent where the problem demands it

• Output focussed: stay close to the work. Write production code, shape architecture, lead by building. Where you spend your time is your call, judged on what you deliver
,
• Own the AI platform: the context layer that makes Sunsave readable by AI, the harness employees run agents through, and the eval and autonomy bar agents must clear in a regulated business. Lead the AI builders who deploy into departments

• Represent Engineering: at the leadership table, with investors, and cross-functionally with Product on where we trade off speed, quality, and long-term value
