Job description

Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to lead the eDiscovery function, with accountability for strategy, governance, people leadership, and delivery across the discovery lifecycle. This role manages the eDiscovery Active Management Function and acts as the senior subject-matter expert for eDiscovery within the department.

In this role you will:
  • Define and maintain the HSBC’s eDiscovery strategy, operating model, and standards.
  • Set the Target Operating Model for discovery across regions, ensuring consistent execution while accommodating jurisdictional requirements.
  • Lead and develop a global team of eDiscovery Counsel, discovery operations professionals, and vendor-management resources.
  • Partner with Legal Operations, Technology, Cybersecurity, Privacy, Records Management, Information Governance, and business stakeholders.
  • Oversee and ensure the defensible use of Technology-Assisted Review (TAR), analytics, and AI-enabled workflows to drive efficiency, accuracy, and cost savings
  • Set clear objectives, allocate resources, and promote continuous improvement and innovation in discovery and information governance practices.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
  • Qualified lawyer with extensive experience in eDiscovery within Financial Services or Law Firm.
  • Strong knowledge of eDiscovery processes, EDRM framework, document review platforms, information governance, and advanced review technologies (including TAR and AI).
  • Thorough ability to liaise with senior stakeholders with proven ability to influence and attain buy-in.
  • Experience implementing or governing AI, analytics-driven review and workflow optimisation.
  • Prior experience successfully leading a team.
