Job summary

Deep Abacus seeks a Head of the Unit to act as the Chief Economic Adviser, the principal voice to senior leadership. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, integrate diverse analyses, and deliver clear recommendations on economic strategy, policy and risk for a major institution.

This role demands gravitas, independence, and the ability to advise – and challenge – decision-makers at the highest level, with travel as required for international commitments.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or a closely related field.
• 15+ years of senior experience in economic policy, advisory, central banking, international financial institutions, or equivalent leadership roles.
• Demonstrated track record of advising decision-makers at the highest level.
• Deep command of macroeconomics, public finance, and development economics, with proven cross-sector judgement.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and building or reforming institutions is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal economic adviser to senior leadership, translating complex, multi-source analysis into a single, coherent set of recommendations.
• Set the analytical agenda: identify the economic questions that matter most and direct the unit's resources accordingly.
• Synthesize fiscal, monetary, investment, and structural-reform analysis into integrated strategic advice.
• Lead, mentor, and align the directorates, ensuring rigour, independence, and timeliness across all outputs.
• Represent the unit in high-level forums and with external counterparts.
• Convene and direct the expert-adviser network on major economic decisions.
• Safeguard the credibility and intellectual independence of the unit's work at all times.
