Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking a Head of Crewing to lead the transformation of our crewing function for a modern, high-performing fleet. Hybrid, Glasgow-based role reporting into Senior Leadership.

You will own strategic direction of crewing across the fleet, driving workforce planning, recruitment, retention, compliance, training and crew welfare, while partnering with third-party crewing providers and unions to deliver lasting value.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in marine personnel, crewing or maritime workforce management.
• Experience in a senior leadership role within the maritime sector.
• Proven track record of leading change, transformation or continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience developing workforce strategies, succession plans and talent pipelines.
• Experience managing third‑party crewing providers and external partnerships.
• Experience supporting maritime audits, inspections and compliance programmes.
• Commercial awareness with budgets and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Lead the long-term crewing and marine HR strategy aligned to fleet growth and business objectives.
• Drive transformational change across crewing operations to improve efficiency and employee experience.
• Develop workforce planning strategies to build resilience and future talent pools.
• Build partnerships with operational leaders, HR, technical teams, providers and unions.
• Use workforce analytics to influence decisions and improve performance.
• Champion seafarer welfare, wellbeing and engagement across the fleet.
• Ensure compliance with MLC, STCW, Flag State and client requirements during audits and inspections.
• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing crewing team.
