Overview

Our client is a successful and growing business, and they are looking for a Head of Credit Control to join their growing team based in Salisbury on a 6 - 9-month Contract.

Purpose of the Role

The Head of Credit Control will lead the credit control function, ensuring the effective management of customer credit risk, timely collections, and robust debtor ledger control. This is a hands-on role, responsible for shaping credit policy, driving process improvements, and supporting business growth by optimising working capital.

Main Accountabilities
  • Lead and manage the credit control team, ensuring high performance, motivation, and professional development.
  • Develop and implement effective credit policies and procedures aligned with business objectives.
  • Ensure timely collection of outstanding debts and proactively manage overdue accounts.
  • Work closely with the sales and customer service teams to balance commercial growth with prudent risk management.
  • Monitor and report on debtor days, cashflow, and credit risk exposure to senior management.
  • Negotiate payment plans and settlements with customers when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company standards in all credit control activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, systems enhancements, and process efficiency.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex or sensitive customer credit issues.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading a credit control function, ideally in a fast-paced SME or mid-market business.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build effective internal and external relationships.
  • Solid knowledge of credit risk assessment, debt recovery processes, and relevant legislation.
  • Commercial acumen with a strong grasp of financial reporting and KPIs.
  • Experience with credit control systems/ERP and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach.

This is a full-time onsite role working Monday to Friday 9-5pm for 6-9 months offering £40,000 - £45,000 DOE and great benefits.
