Position: Head of Content

Reporting to: Portfolio Director
Special Requirements: We are looking for an experienced senior conference producer with a defence-or-related background that can step into a Head of Content role.

Overview

You will be responsible for developing and executing a high-level, Africa-focused defence conference programme that attracts senior government, ministerial, and industry participation. As Head of Content, you will shape strategic direction, oversee speaker acquisition, manage advisory boards, and align content delivery with both commercial and diplomatic objectives.

Key Accountabilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and deliver the overall content and conference strategy, ensuring alignment with defence and security priorities across Africa.

  • Business & Market Intelligence: Conduct in-depth research into defence policies, technologies, and regional developments to inform programming.

  • Content Development & Delivery: Curate and deliver impactful, high-level summits and technical seminars across multiple theatres.

  • Commercial & Brand Development: Collaborate closely with sales and marketing teams to enhance monetisation opportunities and strengthen the event brand.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with defence, government and international partners to ensure balanced representation and effective advisory board engagement.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 7-10+ years in conference production or content leadership (preferably with a defence, policy or public sector focus).
  • Proven experience developing senior-level government or C‑suite conferences.
  • Strong research, analytical and writing skills with the ability to create thought‑leadership agendas.
  • Skilled at managing advisory boards and diplomatic stakeholders.
  • Balanced strategic and execution‑oriented mindset with sensitivity to political and regional contexts.
  • Confident communicator with a formal, diplomatic tone and strong cross‑cultural awareness.
  • Degree‑educated; a master’s or background in international relations/defence is advantageous.
Success Metrics / KPIs
  • Delivery of the strategic programme on time.
  • Positive delegate and speaker engagement feedback.
  • Effective management of the advisory board.
  • Number and calibre of senior participants (e.g., Chiefs of Defence, Ministers).
