Head of Construction - Major Infrastructure Delivery

Location: Peterborough, Norwich or Lincoln (covering East of England)

Salary: £100,000-£120,000 + Executive Benefits + Car Allowance

A leading UK main contractor is seeking a Head of Construction to oversee a £750 million programme of infrastructure projects across the East of England. This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving operational excellence, leading large delivery teams, and ensuring successful completion of complex, high-value projects.

Role Overview

As Head of Construction, you will take strategic responsibility for multiple, large-scale construction projects in a region stretching between Hull, Oxford, and Southend. You will lead regional construction teams, control budgets and resources, and deliver projects safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This role reports directly to the Delivery Director and sits on par with Project Director level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the construction delivery strategy across a £750m, five-year capital programme.
  • Manage and motivate multi-site construction teams to deliver operational and commercial targets.
  • Oversee all construction activities, ensuring buildability, safety by design, and efficient project execution.
  • Maintain control over direct labour, subcontractors, and plant resource utilisation.
  • Champion a zero-harm culture through visible leadership and adherence to HSE standards.
  • Maintain strict budgetary and cost-control discipline across all schemes.
  • Build strong relationships with supply chain partners to enhance performance and innovation.
  • Provide regular progress and performance reports to senior leadership teams.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven success leading major infrastructure, civil engineering or utilities projects valued over £100m.
  • Strong leadership and people management experience across multiple sites.
  • Deep knowledge of NEC contracts, commercial control, and large-scale construction methodologies.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and drive strategic delivery outcomes.
  • Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience within regulated utilities, water, or infrastructure frameworks.
  • Chartered status with ICE, CIOB, or RICS.
  • Experience within self-delivery or alliance contracting models.
