Rate: £220 - £280 per day / £42,000 - £55,000 per annum (Leadership Scale)

Are you a visionary technologist ready to lead a department into the future?

Randstad Education is seeking an ambitious and experienced Head of Computing for a prestigious secondary school in Brentwood.

This is a pivotal leadership role within the school's STEM faculty. You will be responsible for the strategic direction of the Computing department, overseeing a curriculum that encompasses Computer Science, ICT, and Digital Literacy. We are looking for a leader who can inspire both staff and students, driving high standards of achievement at GCSE and A-Level while fostering a culture of innovation and ethical tech use.

Key Responsibilities
  • Departmental Leadership: Lead, manage, and support a team of Computing specialists, conducting observations and providing high-quality feedback.
  • Curriculum Design: Oversee the planning and delivery of a rigorous KS3-KS5 curriculum, ensuring alignment with the latest industry trends (e.g., AI, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing).
  • Academic Excellence: Take accountability for student outcomes in GCSE Computer Science and A-Level / BTEC Level 3, implementing robust intervention strategies where needed.
  • Resource Management: Manage the departmental budget and state-of-the-art computer labs, ensuring students have access to the best hardware and software (Python, Java, Adobe Suite, etc.).
  • Extra-Curricular Vision: Lead "beyond the classroom" initiatives, such as coding clubs, robotics competitions, and industry partnerships with tech firms.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience: A proven track record of teaching excellence and previous experience in a leadership role (Head of Dept, Second in Dept, or Lead Practitioner).
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of programming (Python is essential) and the theoretical components of the Computer Science specification.
  • Strategic Mindset: The ability to analyse data to drive departmental improvement and the "soft skills" to manage a diverse team.
  • Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service.
