Head of Category Management – Indirect Procurement

London | £80,000 + Excellent Package

A leading energy organisation is seeking a dynamic Head of Category Management – Indirects to take a pivotal leadership role within its growing procurement function. This is a rare Greenfield opportunity to help shape and deliver a best‑in‑class procurement strategy within one of the UK’s most ambitious and high‑profile programmes.

Working as the right hand to the Head of Indirects, this role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on delivery. You'll lead a team of four category managers, overseeing a spend in the high hundreds of millions across a broad range of indirect procurement categories, including IT, Professional Services, HR and FM.

The organisation is on an exciting journey to transform its procurement capability, moving from a project‑based model to a mature, strategically driven function. This role will be central to that evolution, defining how category management is structured, delivered and embedded across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high‑performing category management team, driving consistency, excellence and innovation across all procurement activities
  • Design and implement robust category strategies for multiple indirect spend areas
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, ensuring alignment between business needs and procurement objectives
  • Oversee major sourcing and negotiation activity, ensuring best value and strong supplier relationships
  • Play a key role in embedding a culture of strategic procurement across the organisation, creating processes and frameworks that will stand the test of time
Ideal Candidate
  • Proven track record leading complex procurement categories within large, fast‑paced organisations
  • Strong indirect procurement experience across two or more areas such as IT, HR, Professional Services or FM
  • Experienced people leader, capable of inspiring and developing a team
  • Commercially astute, with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Equally comfortable operating at a strategic level and getting hands‑on when needed
