Role Information

We are looking for an inspirational leader to join Learning Curve Group as Head of Academies - Construction. Our Construction Academies division is made up of three academies based in the North East at Middlesbrough & Sunderland and one in Exeter. Whilst you will spend a significant amount of time based in the North East, you will be required to travel to Exeter on a regular monthly basis, which will include some overnight stays.

About the Role

We specialise in a range of trades including Bricklaying, Plastering, Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating, and Multi‑Skill qualifications. Following significant investment in our newly equipped Sunderland skills academy, we now offer commercial provision in Green Energy Source heating as well as solar and charger installation and electrical and plumbing upskilling courses. Our provision varies from short & long courses to apprenticeships and study programmes, where learners receive experience of trading within a fully working workshop.

As Head of Academies, you will drive passion and success through the academy and be responsible for providing inspirational leadership to the Construction Academy team while driving Learning Curve Group’s strategy for our Academies Division, ensuring a high‑quality learning experience for our learners. You will support strategic growth plans for the provision, maximising opportunities across all three sites.

Duties
  • Significantly contribute to our strategic development plan, which sets out the vision and key targets for growth within our Academies.
  • Implement our strategic development plan to grow and develop Academy provision in key sectors based on employer demand, LMI research and intelligence gathering.
  • Identify and implement ongoing changes to delivery and employer relationships needed to support ASF programmes, study programmes, traineeships and 19+ AEB/Loans.
  • Monitor and manage learner recruitment, success and progression in line with budgeted revenue requirements.
  • Ensure delivery is cost effective with monitoring and management of budgeted expenditure.
  • Manage day‑to‑day reporting of KPI’s and develop procedures and documentation for the employer and learner journey for all Academy provision.
  • Liaise with the MIS team to produce reports including analysis of KPI’s for relevant teams.
  • Develop and manage Academy staff, ensuring provision is maintained to a high standard and fully staffed across all sites.
  • Effectively manage team performance and address underperformance through robust and timely review.
  • Develop, review and revise curriculum delivery materials to support current and new programmes.
  • Build strong networks with employers, funding agencies, schools, local councils, DWP, JCP, etc., to identify and maximise funding opportunities.
  • Contribute to research to identify new employer needs and products.
  • Contribute to a marketing strategy to support growth and maintain our reputation as an employer‑responsive provider.
  • Liaise with other delivery teams regarding contract requirements and engagement for funded provision.
  • Respond to changes in relevant funding models and develop cost‑ed delivery models where necessary.
  • Develop the Academy brand and promote our offering to schools, parents, young people and businesses.
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality team to monitor and manage all Academy provision, including performance management and audit compliance.
  • Develop the Academies Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) with associated teams, leading to Self‑Assessment Report compilation that contributes to company targets.
  • Implement and comply with Company’s Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Data Protection Act and Health and Safety policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Undertake professional development activities for Academy staff.
  • Act in line with company values and expected behaviours.

  • Provide learners, customers and colleagues with support, advice and guidance as part of everyday role.
