Job description
The Role:

Working for this leading university, you will play the lead managerial role in academic planning for the Law School. Working closely with the Associate Dean (Education) and other senior colleagues you will oversee the workload allocation process to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with institutional goals. The role encompasses strategic input into course planning, staffing models, and resource allocation to support high-quality teaching and student experience. This is a complex and large-scale process, with indicatively 80+ academic staff, over 100 courses (across undergraduate and postgraduate teaching) as well as a large number of Guest Teachers and Graduate Teaching Assistants each year.

A key focus of the role is on modelling, data analysis, and reporting to monitor workloads, teaching quality, and resource efficiency, and providing advice and insight to inform academic decision-making. The postholder has ownership of the end-to-end recruitment and management of Guest Teachers and Graduate Teaching Assistants, ensuring timely contracts, accurate payments, smooth onboarding and effective budget control.

You will line manage staff to oversee academic recruitment, review, promotion and various types of leave including sabbatical. They will also contribute to School-wide initiatives, representing the Law School in institutional forums and managing ad hoc projects as required. This is a key leadership role combining operational management, strategic planning, and data-informed decision-making in support of the Law School’s educational mission.

This is a hybrid (60% on-site during term-time), part-time, 21 hours per week role, in a fixed term contract until December 2027 to cover a staff member who is on secondment.

What’s required:
  • Candidates must have extensive administrative experience in higher education and provenexperience in academic planning, workload allocation models, resource management, or similar processes.
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting complex data is essential, as is experience of preparing high-quality reports, data, and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Very strong attention to detail is essential, together with a willingness to experiment with and learn new technologies to improve services.
  • Experience in staff management and budget management, is desirable.
