HCA (GP PRACTICE EXPERIENCE MUST) - 25 H/WEEK - Immediate Joining

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our close-knit, friendly clinical team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in primary care/GP settings, bringing at least 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Care certificate is mandatory.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy – Performing blood draws for diagnostic testing.

NHS Health Checks – Conducting routine health assessments to evaluate patient well‑being.

Health Promotion – Discussing lifestyle factors, raising awareness of well‑being, and supporting initiatives such as Smoking Cessation and Weight Management.

Basic Observations – Recording blood pressure, height, weight, temperature, and pulse.

Long‑Term Condition Monitoring – Carrying out disease management checks and escalating concerns as needed.

Vaccinations & Injections – Administering flu jabs, B12 injections, etc.

Wound Care – Assisting with basic wound care, suture removal, and clip removal under nurse supervision.

Diagnostic Tests – Performing ECGs and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM).

Chaperoning – Providing support during examinations and procedures.

Sample Management – Processing and handling laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses.

Clinical Preparation – Ensuring equipment and environments are ready before and after patient care.

Health Campaigns – Supporting flu clinics and other initiatives in collaboration with the Lead Nurse.

Appointment Coordination – Contacting eligible patients to schedule routine smears, immunisations, and NHS Health Checks.

Data Collection – Assisting in gathering and organising health‑related data.

Stock Management – Ordering clinical supplies and maintaining inventory control.

Hounslow Family Practice is a partnership of two GPs, providing care for 6,100 patients in Hounslow. Our exceptional clinical team includes 2 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, a Clinical Pharmacist, 1 Practice Nurse, 1 Physician Associate, and 2 Health Care Assistants. This clinical team is supported by an administrative staff, which includes a Practice Manager, an Administration team, and a Reception team, all dedicated to serving our patient population.

Job responsibilities

You will collaborate with our clinical teams to provide exceptional primary care services to our patients. Your role will include a mix of Healthcare Assistant (HCA) duties and clinical administrative tasks as part of your daily responsibilities.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Assist with QOF‑related reviews.
  • Conduct new patient health checks and other health screenings.
  • Perform urinalysis and prepare specimens for testing.
  • Carry out routine and 24‑hour BP monitoring, providing appropriate patient advice.
  • Conduct blood tests (phlebotomy).
  • Administer vaccinations, including flu and pneumococcal vaccines.
  • Provide B12 injections.
  • Perform wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks either independently or under supervision.
  • Educate patients on health and well‑being, promoting NHS campaigns when necessary.
  • Gather lifestyle data for accurate record‑keeping and guide patients toward relevant health resources.
  • Maintain infection control standards and manage clinical equipment.
  • Assist with vaccination management and clinical stock control as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Attend and contribute to practice meetings.
  • Support data collection and analysis related to health and well‑being needs.
  • Assist with seasonal and special projects.
  • Complete other ad‑hoc tasks as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Experience of working in GP practice and using SystmOne.
  • Experience of working in a GP practice.
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy.
  • Health Care Assistance Certificates / Qualifications.
  • HCA skills and competency in ECG, NHS Health Check and working with patients with long term condition such as diabetes, although training will be offered to the right candidate.
  • Experience in inventory management.
  • Know‑how of Infection control.
