Working flexible shifts on various wards throughout Haywood Hospital you will provide essential care and support to people when they are feeling unwell, vulnerable and unsure. Your role is vital to ensuring the best possible care experience for patients.

Development and Opportunities

As a new HCA you’ll be supported to complete the Care Certificate, opening up further NHS and care industry opportunities. Experienced HCAs can pursue qualifications such as the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Healthcare Support Services and the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support.

Progression possibilities include Senior Healthcare Assistant, Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate, and ultimately roles such as Nurse, Midwife or Doctor.

Main Duties / Responsibilities
  • Washing and dressing patients
  • Serving meals and helping to feed patients
  • Assisting patients in moving around and comfort
  • Making beds and supporting other healthcare staff
  • Monitoring patients’ conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight
  • Sterilising equipment, restocking consulting rooms, trolleys, and stations
  • Carrying out health checks, taking blood samples and processing lab samples
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Essential:

  • Enhanced background check passed
  • References covering the last two years (employing, professional, academic or written from the Job Centre/Benefits Office)
  • Three‑month clinical reference from NHS, private practice or care home
  • Immunisations: Hep B, TB, Varicella and MMR
