Job summary

A local equestrian training organization in Ramsden is looking for an apprentice to assist with daily yard duties, horse handling, and training. The ideal candidate will have some experience with horses, be a confident rider, and possess GCSE Level 4 in Maths and English. This position offers on-site training and valuable mentorship from experienced professionals.

Qualifications

  • Some previous experience working with horses, preferably racehorses.
  • Ridden apprentice - must be a confident rider.
  • Must be able to work towards Level 2 or higher in Functional Skills Maths and English.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily yard duties, including mucking out, feeding, grooming and general care.
  • Support in the training and handling of horses, including groundwork and long reining.
  • Work closely with Ian Vandenberghe, gaining valuable insight into Monty Roberts techniques.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Carry out daily yard duties, including mucking out, feeding, grooming and general care
  • Assist with turning out and bring in horses safely and calmly
  • Support in the training and handling of horses, including groundwork, long reining and join-up sessions.
  • Observe and interpret horse body language to understand communication and behaviour.
  • Work closely with Ian Vandenberghe, gaining valuable insight into Monty Roberts techniques and methods.
  • Help maintain high standards of yard presentation and horse welfare.
  • Assist with exercise routines and potentially some riding opportunities
  • Work effectively as part of a small, professional team and demonstrate the ability to work independently when required

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8am until 5pm - with occasional weekends required for competitions or events

Training

All training will be provided on site during your paid working hours. Your day to day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination of online and in person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training Trainer Coach.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • GCSE Level 4/Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Call Haddon Training to discuss if not yet achieved - Must be able to work towards Level 2 or higher in Functional Skills Maths and English.
  • Some previous experience working with horses, preferably racehorses.
  • Ridden apprentice - must be a confident rider.
  • A team player able to communicate well with others.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Use of initiative.
