Job summary

A government service provider is seeking a dedicated Handyperson to join their team at HMP The Verne in Sunderland. Salary: £26,575.65
Contract: Permanent – Full Time

We are seeking a dedicated Handyperson to join our team at HMP The Verne, a Category C men’s prison. Our Facilities Maintenance Team works Monday‑Friday as a supportive and driven family, creating a safe and nurturing environment for prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Handyperson, you will work alongside experienced colleagues (plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners, administrators) to maintain the prison’s infrastructure and support rehabilitation efforts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working in a prison environment
  • Proficient with hand and power tools
  • Experience in building fabric / Hard FM environment
  • Up to date First Aid at Work qualification
  • Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
  • Good Health & Safety knowledge
  • Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills
