Job Title: Assessor (Hair Dressing / Barbering)

Location: Lessons to occur in our training centre LITC Barking Centre, Barking, London or South London, Brixton.
Reporting to: Director of Education
Terms: In-person teaching (with agreed remote teaching if required)
Salary: Competitive day rate, to be discussed at application/interview

Job Summary

An Assessor working in further education for LITC is responsible for professionally delivering assessment services in line with the Joint Awarding Bodies’ Guidance for Internal Verification, the NVQ Code of Practice, and the awarding body’s requirements. The role involves assessing learners, recording progress, and ensuring timely completion of all components of the Qualification Framework.

We are looking for an Experienced Hairdressing / Barber tutor who is passionate about the Hair industry and keeps up to date with the latest trends. We are a growing training academy and therefore require additional staff to meet the demand.

You will be responsible for:
  • Managing the complete learner journey from IAG, initial assessments, and marking of exams through to completing ILPS, monthly reviews and daily support logs.
  • Writing SOW and lesson plans and keeping competent tracking of every learner as well as completing classroom packs on all cohorts.
Experience & Skills required:
  • Experience in delivering the level 3 Hairdressing / Barbering Qualification for the awarding body would be advantageous.
  • Ability to demonstrate high quality techniques along with a high level of knowledge associated.
  • Provide an up to date DBS and complete further training in prevent, online safety, safeguarding, who to trust online testing.
  • Willingness to attend all standardisation/team meetings ad hoc to keep up to date with the ever changing challenges associated with further education.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and proactivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation, and ability to voice concerns, issues, and any complex issues efficiently.
  • Good standard of numeracy and experience in working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work with staff effectively and committed to teamwork.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities and show flexibility.
Qualifications
  • Assessor qualification (A1, TAQA or Equivalent)
  • Proven track record of successful completion of portfolios with success rates
  • Competency in completing course compliance documentation in line with SFA guidelines
  • Experience of teaching post 16
  • Experience of assessing – Level 3 or higher qualification in Hairdressing and/or Barbering
  • Teaching qualification (PTLLS or above)
  • Assessor qualification – Diploma or higher education – teaching 3 years (preferred)
Professional Development
  • Stay up to date with current trends and techniques in the industry.
  • Attend relevant training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to maintain teaching and industry expertise.
Quality Assurance and Meetings
  • Attend 1 day (max. 8 hours) of activity per month for quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • Participate in standardisation meetings, team meetings, 1-2-1 meetings, company self‑assessment day, and CPD training days.
Observation and Documentation
  • Be available for observation of relevant working practices at least twice a year.
  • Submit required assessment paperwork on time, working with the Head of Quality Administration to provide requested paperwork.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend monthly meetings (remote or in‑person) with the client to discuss caseloads and progress.
  • Conduct relevant quality checks on all portfolios.
  • Adhere to expense reimbursement policies and submit claims promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality as per the agreement.
  • Contribute to marketing and resource sharing as outlined in the SLA.
  • Achieve a minimum of 80% success rate, with corrective action plans for rates below 65%.
  • Comply with termination and complaint procedures as specified.

Schedule & Location
  • To be discussed at interview – minimum of 1 day work with 1 cohort per week.
  • Assessor will be classroom‑based in our new training centre in Barking, East London (potentially with online delivery for theory sessions, to be discussed with the right candidate).
  • Flexibility for assessors to work weekdays or weekends (daytime and evenings), with the possibility to choose working days & hours (to discuss at interview).
