Overview

Hair and Beauty Tutor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part-Time (Monday – Wednesday), 1-Year Maternity Cover
Start Date: February 2026

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a passionate and skilled Hair and Beauty Tutor to join a specialist SEMH provision in York from February 2026. This is a part-time position (3 days per week) on a 1-year maternity contract, offering an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact on the personal and vocational development of young people.

About the School

The provision supports students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as other additional learning challenges. The environment is nurturing, creative, and hands-on, focusing on helping students gain confidence, employability skills, and practical qualifications that prepare them for post-16 education and training.

About The Role
  • Deliver engaging and practical Hair and Beauty sessions to small groups of KS4 learners.
  • Adapt lessons to meet a range of learning and emotional needs, ensuring all students can participate and achieve.
  • Support students in developing confidence, teamwork, and employability skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance, and achievement.
  • Collaborate with pastoral staff to promote a positive learning environment and strong student engagement.
As the Ideal Candidate
  • Hold a relevant qualification in Hair and Beauty or a related vocational area.
  • Have experience delivering or supporting vocational learning to young people, ideally within an SEN or SEMH setting.
  • Be creative, patient, and passionate about helping students gain practical skills and confidence.
  • Hold a teaching qualification (PTLLS, DTLLS, PGCE, or equivalent) – desirable but not essential.
