Job summary

HCA Laboratories at Shropshire House in London is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Haematology team. The role is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours) with 7.5-hour shifts Monday to Friday, offering exposure to a technically advanced lab environment and a collaborative team.

You will work alongside Biomedical Scientists supporting sample receipt, preparation, analyser support and quality activities, contributing to accurate and timely diagnostic services.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a laboratory environment, ideally within Haematology.
• Good understanding of laboratory processes, sample handling procedures and quality standards.
• Strong communication skills with ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A flexible approach to working hours and responsibilities, including shifts.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process Haematology samples, ensuring laboratory procedures are followed accurately.
• Prepare samples for referral testing and storage.
• Support operation and maintenance of laboratory analysers, including routine maintenance and quality control.
• Assist with stock management, deliveries, reagent monitoring and supplies.
• Support quality and compliance through documentation management and inter-laboratory comparisons.
• Collaborate with Biomedical Scientists and the wider laboratory team to ensure a high-quality service.
