Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the well established Gynae Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) service as a Band 6 Gynaep>

Please be advised that this is a fixed term post for 23 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated and committed individual to develop their knowledge and skill set and gain invaluable experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. You will work alongside and have support and guidance from the Band 7 CNS Lead for the service.

You will form an integral part of the wider multidisciplinary team in supporting gynaecological patients, and their families, diagnosed with cancer and throughout their cancer pathway.

Candidates will need to have previous experience of working within the field of Oncology. Applications are welcome from those who have excellent communication skills, as well as being flexible and adaptable to the needs of the service.

Secondment will be considered for internal candidates - If you are successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

The post requires an accessible and responsive team member with clinical responsibility for patients diagnosed with Gynae‑Oncology cancers who have been referred to the oncology department for anti‑cancer treatments.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be expected to provide high quality care to these patients and their significant others during and after their treatment and to refer on to other professionals for more specialist guidance, support, advice and counselling.

The post holder will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team and liaise with these members accordingly to ensure that patients experience a seamless, high quality service.

The CNS will need the ability to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice and seek guidance where necessary, to ensure that agreed standards, objectives and targets are met.

Job responsibilities

  • A supportive resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  • Supporting the Band 7 in identifying and assessing clinical and non‑clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
  • Actively participating and integrating elements of the Recovery Package e.g. holistic needs assessment, referrals to Health and Well‑Being events.
  • Participating in the writing of protocols, guidelines, patient information and documentation required for service review and development.
  • Participating in providing training of identified staff groups within defined areas.
  • Support patients, carers and staff during non‑complex difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. breaking bad news or following an unexpected event.
  • Participating in clinic preparation and nurse led clinics e.g Treatment pre‑assessment.
  • Inputting data and being involved in audit.
  • Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.
  • Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
