Qualifications

  • At least 5 years post-qualifying tax experience.
  • Experience in the tax department of a large organization, private practice or HMRC.
  • Trained with a Big 4 accountancy firm is desirable.
  • Experience dealing with corporate tax matters.
  • Experience managing relationships with HMRC.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SGN’s tax affairs covering corporate tax, VAT, employment taxes, and customs compliance.
  • Proactively manage SGN’s relationship with HMRC.
  • Preparation of tax calculations and disclosures.
  • Provide tax input to the regulatory return process.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting including calculation of tax instalments.

The role of the Group Tax Manager is to manage SGN’s tax affairs. The Group Tax Manager will work with the other members of the Finance Department to ensure the companies in the SGN Group always meet their tax obligations, lodge all tax related returns, to a high level of accuracy and within the required timeframes, and to provide relevant, and up to date technical tax support to the business.

What you will contribute
  • Manage SGN’s tax affairs covering corporate tax, VAT, employment taxes, and customs compliance obligations, ensuring technical accuracy of all tax submissions
  • Proactively manage SGN’s relationship with HMRC
  • Preparation of tax related calculations and disclosures for inclusion in the Group's statutory accounts
  • Provide tax input to the regulatory return process
  • Contribute to the Group’s budgeting and forecasting process including calculation of tax instalments
  • Consider tax planning opportunities
  • Ensure changes in tax legislation are fully understood and communicated to the business
  • Provide clear tax advice to assist with ad-hoc projects and business support, demonstrating commercial awareness and technical expertise.
  • Manage tax risk associated with M&A and investment activity
What you will need
  • Qualified to at least Chartered Accountant and / or Chartered Tax Adviser level, with at least 5 years post-qualifying tax experience.
  • Experience of working in the tax department of a large organisation, in private practice or HMRC.
  • Ideally trained with a Big 4 accountancy firm.
  • Significant experience in dealing with corporate tax matters.
  • Strong technical knowledge across all relevant areas of taxation.
  • Significant experience of dealing with HMRC and addressing queries raised by HMRC.
  • Excellent people and communication skills, as the role involves negotiating with and dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to apply professional judgement and experience when providing advice.
  • Excellent time management skills.
