Job description

HF Group has been in business since 1898. We are one of the UK’s leading multi-discipline building services contractors, delivering Electrical Services, Mechanical Services, EV Charging Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Security Systems, Telecommunications and Automated Controls.

Our head office is in Glasgow, with offices in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester and Belfast, serving public and private sector clients throughout the UK.

We’re a family business at heart, and we treat our people that way.

Behind every successful project is a simple principle: the right materials, plant and labour need to arrive on time, in the right place and at the right price.

That is where you come in.

The Role

We are looking for a dynamic and commercially focused Group Procurement Manager to lead and develop our procurement function across multiple business units and locations.

This is a senior role with the opportunity to make a significant impact across the Group. You will set the direction for procurement and then make it happen – creating a consistent, commercially driven approach that delivers measurable savings, strengthens supplier relationships and supports the successful delivery of our projects.

During your first year, you will spend time getting to know our sites, offices and teams, building strong relationships and developing a detailed understanding of our current procedures, processes, suppliers and expenditure.

You will then use that insight to develop and implement a Group Procurement Strategy that delivers sustainable value without creating unnecessary bureaucracy or slowing down our engineers and project teams.

Day to day, you will:

  • Own and develop the Group procurement strategy across all HF businesses and offices.
  • Take responsibility for procurement, stores, plant hire and agency labour spend.
  • Identify opportunities to improve commercial performance, consistency and efficiency across the Group.
  • Establish clear procurement processes, policies and governance that support the needs of the business.

Deliver Better Commercial Outcomes

  • Consolidate and rationalise the supplier base where appropriate.
  • Negotiate Group-wide agreements, pricing structures, rebates and commercial terms.
  • Develop strong, strategic supplier relationships while holding suppliers accountable for price, quality, service and delivery.
  • Identify and deliver measurable cost savings and value improvements.
  • Develop appropriate KPIs and reporting to demonstrate procurement performance and benefits.

Build and Develop the Team

  • Lead, develop and grow the procurement and stores team.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities and performance expectations.
  • Provide training, coaching and development opportunities.
  • Develop succession plans and build procurement capability across the Group.
  • Create a collaborative team culture where people are supported to perform at their best.

Improve Stores and Stock Control

  • Establish consistent processes for ordering, receipt, storage, issue and stock control.
  • Improve stock visibility and availability across our locations.
  • Reduce waste, duplication and unnecessary stockholding.
  • Introduce appropriate controls and reporting to improve inventory accuracy and accountability.

Control Plant and Labour Costs

  • Develop effective processes for plant allocation, utilisation and off-hire.
  • Improve visibility and control of plant costs across live projects.
  • Manage agency labour providers and commercial arrangements to ensure value for money.
  • Work closely with operational teams to identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure.

Protect the Business

  • Ensure procurement activity complies with Group policies, contractual requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Develop responsible sourcing practices across the supply chain.
  • Ensure appropriate consideration is given to ESG, modern slavery and ethical sourcing requirements.

Use Data, Systems and Technology

  • Drive effective use of our ERP and procurement systems.
  • Improve the quality, consistency and visibility of procurement data.
  • Develop meaningful reporting on spend, savings, stock, supplier performance and other key procurement metrics.
  • Ensure procurement decisions are based on reliable data and commercial insight rather than assumptions.

Influence Across the Group

  • Provide regular procurement and commercial performance reporting to the Board and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Build effective relationships with Directors, Project Managers, Commercial teams and site-based colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure procurement supports, rather than hinders, project delivery.
  • Act as the Group’s procurement expert, providing commercial advice and challenging existing practices where appropriate.

About You

We are looking for an experienced procurement professional who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery.

You will be comfortable working alongside the Board and Senior Management Team, while being equally at ease engaging with project teams, engineers, stores personnel and suppliers across the business.

You will bring:

  • Significant procurement experience, including responsibility for leading a procurement and/or stores function.
  • A strong track record of supplier management, contract negotiation and delivering measurable cost savings.
  • Experience managing budgets, stock control and inventory systems.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to build, develop and motivate high-performing teams.
  • The confidence to present to and influence senior leaders, operational teams and suppliers.
  • Strong analytical, reporting and Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • MCIPS, CIPS qualification with progress towards chartership, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to our offices and operational sites.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience within construction, building services, M&E, engineering or facilities management.
  • Experience implementing or improving ERP/e-procurement systems.
  • A background in electrical or plumbing wholesale.
  • Knowledge of responsible sourcing, ESG and modern slavery requirements.
  • A degree or diploma in supply chain management, business or a related discipline.
  • IOSH or other relevant Health & Safety training.

Why Join HF Group?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of procurement across an established, growing UK business and to make a tangible difference to how we operate.

You will have the opportunity to shape our procurement strategy, develop our people, strengthen our supply chain and deliver measurable commercial value across the Group.
