Job summary

Alfred H Knight is seeking a Group ICP Technical Chemist to join our Laboratory in Liverpool, UK. You will provide expert technical, operational and method development support to ICP teams worldwide, leading method development projects and driving continuous improvements to ensure accurate, timely analytical results for clients.

Reporting to the Group ICP Technical Manager, you will collaborate with colleagues to troubleshoot, review methods, and deliver high‑quality data that meets reporting

• Good knowledge of ICP and experience of applying this in a practical setting.

• Able to critically review technical information and spot root causes and suggest solutions.

• Ensure effective and timely communications between peer group, other departments and line managers.

WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Group ICP Technical Chemist to join our Laboratory here in Liverpool, UK.

The Group ICP teams use both Optical and Mass ICP spectrometers to analyse a broad range of materials and commodities for our clients. The department provides a critical function of AHK's laboratory services.

Reporting to the Group ICP Technical Manager, you will provide expert technical, operational, and method development support to ICP teams worldwide. You will take a proactive leadership role in driving method development projects and continuous improvements, ensuring efficient, accurate, and timely analytical results that meet client expectations and reporting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing support in method development for new commodities.
• Actively seeking out method improvements to existing methods.
• Where necessary providing operational support to meet the day to day requirements of the Group ICP laboratories.
• Providing technical advice and support to Group laboratory staff as required on technical problems, acting in a 'troubleshooting' capacity to all.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Good knowledge of ICP and experience of applying this in a practical setting.

Required Work Experience

• Substantial experience in working in a laboratory environment.
• Substantial experience of using the following techniques - ICP-OES & ICP-MS, AAS and any other relevant spectroscopic techniques would be advantageous.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum degree equivalent education would be beneficial

Travel

• Requirement for periodic travel to group laboratories overseas to undertake site support audits and training visits. Overseas visits will in general last between one and four weeks in duration, but longer secondments may be requested based on business requirements.
