Qualifications

Role Description

This is a senior finance role with responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and control of the organisation’s financial operations. Acting as the Finance Director’s key support, you will oversee the finance team, lead financial reporting, develop forecasting models, and play a central role in driving operational and strategic decision‑making.

This role is ideal for a qualified accountant who thrives in a hands‑on, leadership role where precision, insight, and continuous improvement are highly valued.

What you will be doing
  • Leading the preparation of accurate monthly management accounts and annual financial statements (UK GAAP).
  • Managing statutory reporting and compliance including VAT, corporation tax, and audit coordination.
  • Implementing and maintaining strong internal control frameworks and financial policies.
  • Leading the budgeting and re‑forecasting processes in collaboration with department heads.
  • Monitoring financial performance and providing variance analysis with meaningful insights.
  • Overseeing cash flow management and working capital efficiency.
  • Providing financial analysis to support strategic planning, investment cases, and operational improvement.
  • Preparing financial dashboards and reports for senior leadership.
  • Managing, mentoring, and developing a small finance team.
  • Driving continuous improvement across finance processes and systems (Sage 50 environment).
What you will bring
  • Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) — essential.
  • Significant experience in financial reporting and control, ideally as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and working knowledge of UK GAAP.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cash management.
  • Confident communicator, able to explain financial insights to finance and non‑finance audiences.
  • Advanced Excel and strong financial systems experience (Sage experience advantageous).
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a small team.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with strong problem‑solving ability.
