Job Description

We Build Recruitment are seeking a skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor (Civil Engineering) on behalf of our client, a leading nationwide Civil Engineering and Groundworks Contractor.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the financial and contractual management of civil engineering projects — ensuring value for money, cost control, and compliance with contract terms.

You will be responsible for cost planning, procurement, contract administration, and project valuation, working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to deliver successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts throughout project lifecycles.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, tender evaluations, and contract negotiations.
  • Oversee measurement and valuation of works (including variations and claims).
  • Prepare and submit interim and final payment applications.
  • Maintain accurate cost reporting and cash flow forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with contract conditions (NEC, JCT, FIDIC, or other forms).
  • Support project teams with change management and risk analysis.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and site teams to ensure transparency and effective cost control.
  • Participate in value engineering and project cost reviews.
  • Prepare final accounts and close-out documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Membership or working towards membership of RICS, ICES, or equivalent professional body.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a civil engineering or infrastructure environment.
  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (especially NEC3/NEC4).
  • Experience with cost control systems and commercial reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and quantity surveying software.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
