Job summary

Chappell Enterprises UK, on behalf of a prestigious independent school, is seeking a dedicated Groundsperson to maintain the school's 14-acre sports field and landscaped areas. You will work with the Estates Team to ensure fixtures and training can proceed in all weather, upholding high standards of appearance and safety. The role is outdoors, 40 hours per week, with Saturdays in term time when needed; a full UK driving licence is required.

  • Promote health and safety within the team and respond to emergencies.
  • Facilitate training sessions, games lessons, and fixtures.

Position: Groundsperson

Location: Ealing, London

Salary: £30,000 - £32,000

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (fortnightly Saturdays during term time)

Important: A full Clean UK Driving Licence is required for you to be considered for this position.

Chappell Enterprises UK is recruiting on behalf of our client, a prestigious independent school, seeking a proactive and skilled Groundsperson to join their Estates Team.

About Our Client

Our client is a leading independent co‑educational day school located in a pleasant and leafy suburb of Ealing. With excellent facilities and a strong emphasis on sports, they attract pupils from an extensive area. The school boasts a 14-acre sports field with multiple pitches, a pavilion, and various sports amenities.

About the Role

As a Groundsperson, you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the sports field and landscaped areas. Working closely with the Director of Sport and heads of sport, you will ensure the sports field is available for fixtures and training. This role involves working outdoors in all weathers and requires a commitment to high standards of health and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preparation and maintenance of sports facilities and surfaces.
  • Set up sports pitches and undertake minor construction and landscaping work.
  • Drive and maintain vehicles and equipment used for grounds maintenance.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience in maintaining sports grounds and providing high‑quality sports surfaces.
  • Experience operating and maintaining sports ground machinery and equipment.
  • Physically fit and able to work at heights.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation.

Desirable:

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., NVQ, SVQ, GMA Technical Certificate).
  • Experience in maintaining cricket squares and pitches.
  • Familiarity with irrigation and drainage systems.
