Job summary

The University of Bristol is seeking a hands-on Grounds Assistant to provide a comprehensive grounds maintenance service across the City/Clifton Campus. You will work as part of a larger grounds team, performing grass cutting, litter removal, graffiti removal, and seasonal tasks to keep outdoor spaces safe and attractive.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar grounds maintenance role.
• Full driving license and reliable transport.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Grass cutting, litter removal, bin emptying tasks.
• Graffiti removal and seasonal duties (leaf clearance, gritting).
• Occasional horticultural duties may be included.
• Operate a shared departmental vehicle for satellite sites.

This is a hands-on practical grounds maintenance role working as part of a larger grounds team.

What will you be doing?

Working primarily within the City/Clifton Campus area of the University this role provides a comprehensive grounds maintenance service across all of our outdoor spaces.

Tasks will include grass cutting, litter removal and bin emptying, street cleaning operations, removal of graffiti and fly posters alongside regular seasonal tasks like leaf clearance and gritting. Occasional horticultural duties may also be included.

A shared departmental vehicle is available for satellite sites and larger jobs as required.

You should apply if

We are looking for a motivated individual with a good eye for detail and willing to work both within the team but also independently and using their own initiative.

You should have a background in a similar working environment and a general understanding of the tools, issues and key tasks a role like this entails.

You must have a full driving license, a good understanding of Health & Safety and a willingness to learn and develop your skills. Relevant certificates such as PA1/6 and other Lantra or NPTC qualifications would be beneficial.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are a must as you’ll be working within a team but also be a visible presence for our department across the campus on a daily basis.
