About the Role

Do you take pride in keeping Nottingham’s parks, estates and public spaces clean, green and welcoming? We’re looking for a motivated and hands-on Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to lead frontline teams in delivering excellent public realm services across the city.

In this key role, you’ll oversee daily operations across a range of sites, including HRA estates, highways and parks, ensuring our green spaces are safe, attractive and well maintained. You’ll manage a team of up to 20 operatives, support training and development, and work closely with contractors and partners to achieve the highest standards of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and motivate operational teams to deliver high-quality greenspace maintenance.
  • Monitor daily performance, productivity and service standards.
  • Allocate labour, equipment and materials efficiently to meet targets.
  • Support staff inductions, training and probation reviews.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and Council policies.
  • Conduct estate inspections, ward walks and develop improvement plans.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, including attendance and performance logs.
  • Take part in a standby rota covering evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience supervising frontline Grounds Maintenance or similar operational teams.
  • Strong people management and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, safety standards and good practice.
  • Confidence in planning, scheduling and deploying resources effectively.
  • Competent in using technology and digital systems to support field-based work.
  • Understanding of vehicle and fleet maintenance requirements.
  • A positive, inclusive and community-focused approach.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Recognised qualifications in grounds maintenance, horticulture or equivalent (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, RHS or apprenticeship)- Desirable.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a Skilled Operative in Grounds Maintenance- Essential
  • NRSWA Streetworks Certificate- Desirable.
  • City & Guilds PA1/PA6 (safe handling and application of pesticides)- Desirable.
  • IOSH Certificate- Desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence (Category B)- Essential.
  • Supervisory or leading experience- Desirable.
