Job description

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Grounds Maintenance Operative in HMP Hindley, Barracks Road, Wigan WN2 5TH.

The salary is £26,141.95 and there will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis between Monday to Thursday 07:45 - 16:45, Friday to Sunday 07:45 - 15:45.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

What you will do:
  • General Grounds Maintenance, such as grass cutting, pruning, hedge trimming, clearing leaves litter, verges and weed spraying.
  • General good housekeeping, including litter picking around the grounds if required.
  • General handymen duties including, building flat pack furniture, putting up shelves if required.
  • Assist in Facility Management duties as required directed by Team Supervisor.
What you will bring:
  • Full driving licence is essential.
  • Comfortable working alongside prisoners.
  • Knowledge and experience of Grounds Maintenance type duties including gardening, horticulture operations.
  • Experience in operating light plant and equipment including Motorised Tractors.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety Legislation.
