Job summary

2Excel Group, based in Lasham, Hampshire, is seeking a GSE Assistant to maintain and repair aviation ground support equipment used at our facilities. You will perform routine tasks on tugs, tow tractors, ground power units, and de-icing trucks, working under supervision of senior technicians.

This role requires mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot, plus a good grasp of safety procedures and basic diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude with ability to use hand and power tools.
• Willingness to troubleshoot basic GSE issues.
• Understanding of safety procedures and PPE usage.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on GSE such as tugs, tow tractors, and ground power units.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
• Conduct regular inspections and address problems before operations are affected.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, parts used, and time spent.
• Collaborate with technicians and departments to complete work orders and communicate equipment status.

The day-to-day duties will include but not be limited to:

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a variety of Ground Support Equipment, including tugs, tow tractors, ground power units, de-icing trucks, and other airport machinery.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to ensure equipment is operational and safe.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential problems before they affect operations.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and time spent on each task.
• Collaborate with other technicians and departments to ensure timely completion of work orders and effective communication regarding equipment status.
• Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
• Stay updated on the latest industry standards, equipment technologies, and best practices.

We are looking for a candidate with the following essential skill set and experience:

• Mechanical aptitude: You should be comfortable working with tools, understanding basic mechanical systems, and following technical instructions.
• Ability to troubleshoot: You'll need to identify basic problems with GSE and assist mechanics in diagnosing issues.
• Understanding of safety procedures: Working around GSE requires strict adherence to safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
• Understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems: While not always required, basic knowledge in these areas can be helpful for troubleshooting and understanding GSE functions.
