Job summary

London Southend Airport is hiring a Ground Security Officer for a 20-hour-per-week FTC ending 31 October 2027. The role involves delivering friendly passenger service, screening baggage per CAA rules, and patrolling the airport to maintain safety.

Full training is provided to meet CAA standards. Candidates should be able to work across the 03:00–00:00 window, pass a colour-blind test for X-Ray operation, and have aviation experience.

About the role

Our Security Team is at the heart of keeping London Southend Airport safe, secure and welcoming. Working a varied shift pattern across the airport's operating hours (03:00-00:00), the team work together to ensure passengers enjoy a smooth, safe and efficient journey from the moment they arrive. As Ground Security Officer, you will receive full training to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) standards, giving you all the support you need to succeed in the role. The initial training course for our Ground Security Officers consists of four 40-hour weeks. Please be aware that, if successful, you will be required to attend the course in full.

Key Responsibilities

As a Ground Security Officer, no two days are ever the same. You'll play a key role in keeping our passengers safe while delivering an exceptional airport experience. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing a warm, professional and efficient service to passengers.
• Screening passengers and baggage in accordance with CAA regulations.
• Security patrols across the airport. Conducted on foot and/or in a company vehicle.
• Completing administrative duties and maintaining relevant documentation.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to keep the airport operating safely and smoothly.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Our fantastic Security Training team equip our Ground Security Officers with the training and skills required to excel in this role, however, there are a few requirements successful candidates will need to meet:

• As you will be operating the X-Ray Machines, you will be required to pass a colour-blind test
• Flexibility to work a varied shift pattern across the operating hours of the airport (03:00-00:00)
• Experience working in aviation

The pay range for this role is:

13.50 - 13.50 GBP per hour (London Southend Airport)
