Job summary

AECOM, a global infrastructure firm, seeks a Technical Director/Associate Director for Ground Engineering in the UK. You will lead technical development, oversee geotechnical workstreams, and mentor staff while expanding client relationships and project pipelines.

The role requires a Civil Engineering or Geology degree (2:1+), Chartered status, and strong knowledge of UK ground conditions. Hybrid work is offered across the UK with a focus on delivering high-impact geotechnical outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology with 2:1 (or higher).
• MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is advantageous.
• Chartered status is required.
• Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices.
• Understanding of current design codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical design.
• Ability to collaborate closely in project delivery, work winning and maintaining client satisfaction.
• Knowledge of ground conditions interpretation/parametric assessment and correlation methods for geotechnical design problems.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
• Effective networking to promote the AECOM brand as a consulting partner.
• Insightful, able to recognise opportunities and challenges and make informed decisions.
• Passion for developing the next generation of engineers and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing input, peer review and verification of geotechnical data and analyses and design calculations.
• Providing consultative advice to external partners during all project stages including site-selection and optioneering.
• Managing geotechnical projects with schedules, coordination and budget.
• Providing leadership and support to the Ground Engineering team to deliver projects on time and to quality.
• Maintaining relationships with clients to support business opportunities and lead multi-disciplinary deliveries.
• Collaborating with Transport, Water, Energy and Buildings teams on project works and tenders.
• Mentoring and developing junior team members with appropriate guidance.
