Job summary

Astute’s Renewables Team is recruiting a Grid Connections Manager for its London office. This role oversees grid connection projects from offer to energisation, coordinating internal teams and external providers to ensure on-time delivery.

Based in City of London with hybrid working options, the role involves engaging with DNOs, NESO, ICPs, IDNOs and EPC contractors, managing risks, budgets and stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced renewable energy environment.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification or proven experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering UK electricity grid connection projects from offer acceptance through energisation.
  • Strong experience with DNOs, NESO, ICPs, IDNOs and EPC contractors across complex infrastructure projects.
  • Proven project management experience with programme, cost, risk and stakeholder management.

Astute’s Renewables Team is partnering with a leading renewable energy provider with a strong commitment to professional development and sustainability, to recruit a Grid Connections Manager for its Somerset or London office.

The Grid Connections Manager role comes with a competitive salary and benefits package, including flexible and hybrid working options.

If you’re an experienced Grid Connections Manager looking to work for an organisation operating across renewable energy and battery storage, with a strong focus on delivering projects safely, effectively and to programme.

Responsibilities and duties of the Grid Connections Manager role

Reporting to the Head of Grid you will:

  • Own a portfolio of grid connection projects from connection offer acceptance through to energisation, managing programmes, milestones, budgets, risks and recovery plans.
  • Coordinate internal development, engineering, land, legal, finance and construction teams to ensure projects remain on track and ready for delivery.
  • Manage DNO, TO and NESO connection works, ensuring agreements, milestones, securities and contractual obligations are delivered effectively.
  • Coordinate contestable and non-contestable works through ICPs, IDNOs and network providers, including cable routes, substation interfaces, telecoms, protection systems, metering, MPAN registration and energisation.
  • Monitor network provider and contractor programmes, challenge delays and implement recovery plans where delivery dates are at risk.
  • Act as the key point of contact for DNOs, NESO, ICPs, IDNOs, EPC contractors, consultants and internal project teams, leading progress meetings and holding stakeholders accountable.
  • Identify and manage risks to project timelines, budgets and energisation dates, maintaining risk registers and implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Lead project reviews and provide clear reporting to senior leadership on progress, risks, issues, costs, milestones and mitigation plans.
  • Track grid-related expenditure and support commercial negotiations relating to programmes, variations and changes, ensuring accurate forecasts, schedules and project documentation.
  • Keep up to date with changing regulatory and industry requirements, ensuring grid connection delivery remains compliant and aligned with wider project objectives.

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A relevant qualification or proven experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering UK electricity grid connection projects from offer acceptance through to energisation.
  • Strong experience working with DNOs, NESO, ICPs, IDNOs and EPC contractors across complex infrastructure projects.
  • Proven project management experience, with responsibility for programme, cost, risk and stakeholder management across multiple projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK grid connection processes, network requirements and industry standards, with experience using relevant project management and Microsoft Office systems.
