This role has a starting salary of £18,436.50 per annum, based on an 18-hour working week (pro rata to £36,873 full time equivalent). This is a fixed term contract opportunity for 24 months.

Surrey Libraries have an exciting opportunity to work as a Project Manager to deliver one of England's first Green Library Hub programmes. Guildford Library, alongside Camden and Blackburn, will serve as a Green Library Pilot Hub in Year 1. Guildford Library will remain a Green Library Hub for the full three-year period of the programme. We also offer a hybrid working model with a minimum of two in person days per week.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to work alongside local staff, and managers at Guildford Library. You will be managed by the Libraries Commissioning and Projects Team but work closely with Guildford staff and managers, local partners and Surrey's Greener Futures Team to embed the latest learning on climate activity and sustainability.

The programme will be based at Guildford Library but could also be provided through outreach. You will work with external partners like Zero Carbon Guildford as well as colleagues from the other Green Hubs, the British Library and CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and information Professionals.)

As a Green Library Hub, Guildford Library will:

  • Become a community space where people can learn about the environment and attend related events
  • Help people understand the climate crisis better by focusing on how it affects our local area and getting everyone involved
  • Support and foster partnerships with local schools, and environmental organisations to make a bigger impact
  • Train library staff to become more knowledgeable about environmental issues and better able to help the community

As the Green Library Hub Project Manager you will co-ordinate:

  • Creative Climate Programme – Working with local partners and engaging local environmental creatives you will develop a programme of activity to inspire and encourage behaviour change.
  • Climate Information Resources – Work with partners and library staff to providing access to trusted climate-related information and curated reading lists.
  • Annual Green Libraries Week – Organise and co-ordinate activities to participate in the the annual week-long event with local communities to celebrate and promote climate action.
  • Support other Green Hub related initiatives such as the setting up of staff training and feeding into the evaluation of the programme and Hub activity.

As a Green Library Hub, Guildford Library will also host key events, including Guildford Green Day and Cleaner Air Day, encouraging climate action and supporting the local economy.
