Unlock Your Passions at Portland House Vets

Portland House Veterinary Group is a group of 4 practices, small animal in Retford, Ollerton and Goole and Farm animal at Retford. We have been working in partnership with clients in and around the Retford area for over 50 years. You will be based at our Retford branch but will also be required to work at our Ollerton and Goole sites. Retford is a stunning market town and is located 26 miles east of Sheffield, 23 miles west of Lincoln and 31 miles north‑east of Nottingham. We have great transport links including Retford train station which is a 5‑minute drive or 20‑minute walk from the practice.

Across all of our sites, we have 12 vets and 14 RVN/SVN's, with experience ranging from new graduates to 30 years. We have a fantastic team of support staff and a lovely loyal client base with both large and small animal. We pride ourselves in providing excellent patient, client and employee care. We are a welcoming and friendly team who are enthusiastic and dedicated to working together as a team. We believe strongly in delivering exceptional service and care to our clients and their pets.

From Retford we provide services for farm and small animal clients as well as wildlife parks and zoos. We are well equipped with an ultrasound with Doppler and ECG, digital DR x‑ray, CR dental x‑ray, video endoscopy and full internal lab. We are also moving into a new purpose‑built small animal building at the start of 2026.

Enjoy a welcoming environment with structured support and flexibility to suit your lifestyle.

You will work 42.5 hours per week, 5 days a week, Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 6 pm. You may also be required to participate in a weekend rota and/or an out of hours on‑call rota which will include working on weekends and bank holidays.

Caseload split of 60% Small Animal and 40% Farm.

As a graduate you will have key points of contact for clinical and pastoral support. You will be supported across all disciplines undertaken at the practice as required and are encouraged to learn new skills and fully participate in CPD/VetGDP. We aim to guide you towards self‑reliance and independence through a broad and balanced skill set and will work with you on an individual basis to align our aspirations with yours. We have regular meetings, social events, one‑to‑ones as well as multiple communication channels to allow everyone access to information. Backup will also be provided for OOH initially.
