The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting surety risks, reviewing legal documents, and building relationships with clients and brokers. Essential qualifications include a 1st Law degree and excellent communication skills. practise? Are you able to understand how financial statements tell a story about a company? If so, this role offers excellent prospects and earnings potential outside of a traditional law firm as well as study support for relevant professional qualifications. The Surety division at TMHCC provides bonds and guarantees in respect of contractual and/or regulatory obligations to clients domiciled globally, but with primary focus on Western Europe. The successful candidate can expect to progress to an Underwriting position within three to five years, depending on progress, and as a result this role offers exceptional earning potential. Once training is completed, you will be underwriting all types of Surety bonds, especially for the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting of surety risks in line with agreed strategy and personal authority limits.
  • Review and agreement of legal documents (such as bond forms, security documents, contracts and other agreements).
  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and clients.
  • Liaise effectively with clients and brokers.
  • Gather relevant and sufficient information both financial and other, to assess financial strength of existing and potential clients.
  • Researching the internet and other media to find relevant and up to date information.
  • Analyse information gained from various sources to add to reports.
  • Assist in internal and external meetings as required.
  • Be able to provide explanation and reasons for decisions made.
  • Create and present reports as required.
  • Maintain company records and databases.
  • Identify and escape any potential risks.
  • Assist with market and product development.
  • Other reasonable duties as instructed by the Senior Underwriter/Head of Department.
Performance Objectives
  • Gained a good understanding of the internal Surety bond and guarantee processing systems and the application of premium rating methods.
  • Understand and provide the team with relevant and timely information that will inform underwriting decisions.
Skills and Experience Specification
  • Essential: Graduate with 1st Law degree.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Presentable individual who is able to build effective relationships with external facing stakeholders i.e. brokers/clients.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • IT literate.
  • Desire to gain professional qualification.
  • Some travel will feature.
  • Out of hours meetings i.e. networking/relationship building may be necessary.
