Job summary

Exeter Science Park Limited seeks a Graduate Temporary Works Engineer based in Exeter to join our growing engineering team. You will gain hands-on experience across a wide range of projects, working with experienced engineers to develop temporary works design knowledge and understanding of UK construction practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Interest in temporary works, structural engineering, or construction engineering.
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain engineering concepts clearly.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or a willingness to develop CAD skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering projects across sectors.
  • Support temporary works planning, design and implementation using industry tools.
  • Attend site visits with senior engineers to learn construction processes.
  • Assist in preparing Temporary Works Design Briefs for clients.
  • Produce concept designs, detailed drawings and technical information.
  • Learn engineering drawings and temporary works design principles.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues on multiple projects.
  • Apply BS 5975 and CDM 2015 standards in practice.
  • Deliver safe, practical solutions and maintain good relationships with stakeholders.
  • Take training opportunities toward ICE membership and Chartered status.

Job description

  • Assist with a range of exciting engineering projects, gaining experience across different sectors and construction environments.
  • Support the planning, design, and implementation of temporary works solutions using industry software and design tools.
  • Attend site visits and surveys alongside senior engineers to understand construction processes and identify practical engineering solutions.
  • Assist in the preparation of Temporary Works Design Briefs and support clients in developing suitable project requirements.
  • Produce concept designs, detailed drawings, and technical information under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Develop your understanding of engineering drawings, construction details, and temporary works design principles.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues and contribute to multiple projects while developing effective time management skills.
  • Learn and apply current industry standards, including BS 5975 and temporary works best practice.
  • Support the delivery of safe and practical engineering solutions in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, and colleagues while developing your communication and professional skills.
  • Take advantage of training opportunities and work towards professional membership and eventual Chartered status.
