This role includes a 9-week summer placement and leads to a graduate-level position. Candidates are required to have AAB in STEM subjects and must be in their second year of study, graduating in 2028. The programme provides hands-on experience in software development for real-world applications, emphasizing collaboration and user-centric design.
Thorlabs is proud to offer an Engineering Scholarship Programme through our UK Engineering Department, designed for undergraduate students in the UK currently in their second year (third year in Scotland) of a Software Engineering degree.
This programme begins with an immersive 9-week summer placement and leads to a graduate role in a fast-growing, multinational company. You’ll gain hands‑on experience developing software that powers real‑world products—used by scientists, engineers, and researchers across the globe.

There are now 22 facilities across the world in 9 countries. Here in Ely, we are responsible for the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.
Our purpose‑built facility is just 12 miles from Cambridge, within the beautiful medieval city of Ely. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.
