Job description

With every community, Stantec redefines what’s possible.

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in our Glasgow office, where you will support the design and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will join our Glasgow office and work with colleagues across our wider Water and MEICA teams to support project delivery for water sector clients across Scotland and nationally.

You will support water and wastewater infrastructure projects for local and national clients. This will give you exposure to a challenging and varied technical environment where reliability, resilience, constructability, affordability and sustainability are key to successful project delivery.

Our project portfolio spans across the UK, with opportunities to support major water-sector frameworks and work with multidisciplinary colleagues across mechanical, electrical, civil, process and environmental disciplines.

Take a look at our Water business line here: Water (stantec.com), and review some of the projects you could be working on: Greater Manchester - Integrated Water Management Plan (stantec.com).

About The Role

As part of our Water and MEICA team, you will support mechanical engineering design and delivery across water and wastewater projects, developing your technical capability while learning from experienced engineers and subject matter experts. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, helping to develop mechanical engineering solutions that ensure reliable, efficient and resilient services for communities.
  • Producing engineering calculations, technical drawings, specifications and reports, contributing to the safe and compliant design of treatment processes, pumping stations and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, process, electrical and environmental engineers, to develop integrated solutions that improve water quality, protect the environment and meet client objectives.
  • Assisting with site visits, inspections and surveys, gathering information and supporting the assessment of existing assets to inform upgrades, refurbishment projects and future investment strategies.
  • Engaging with equipment suppliers, contractors and clients, helping to review technical submissions, resolve engineering challenges and ensure projects are delivered to required standards of quality, safety, cost and programme.
  • Contributing to sustainability and innovation initiatives, supporting projects that improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, enhance asset performance, and strengthen the long-term resilience of public water and wastewater services.

We know our continuing success and development depends on yours, so we go all the way when it comes to giving you the support you need to be the very best. Each graduate will be allocated a chartered engineer to act as their mentor and support their professional development towards chartered status.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting mechanical engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure. Your work will contribute to reliable treatment processes, resilient pumping stations, improved water quality, reduced carbon emissions and sustainable engineering solutions for clients across Glasgow, Scotland and nationally.
