Job summary

United Infrastructure Ltd in Warrington seeks a Graduate to join its Energy business, designing, building and maintaining critical national infrastructure and gas systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience across feasibility, detailed design, construction support and asset modification while receiving mentoring from a growing Gas Infrastructure Engineering team.

The graduate programme lasts two years, with a tailored development pathway, virtual and in-person events, and progression opportunities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a 2.2 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of mechanical engineering designs for gas infrastructure projects.
• Prepare equipment specifications, datasheets and calculations.
• Assist with design of pipelines, pressure regulating and metering stations, compressor stations and biomethane facilities.
• Review vendor documentation and technical submissions.
• Participate in material sizing and procurement activities.
• Assist in temporary works design and site surveys.
• Support engineers in delivering project milestones and schedules.
• Produce engineering reports and technical documentation.
• Attend construction sites to gain practical understanding of installation activities.
• Support commissioning and start-up activities.
• Work toward professional registration (IEng/CEng).

Job description

We are looking for a Graduate to join our Energy business who design, build, and maintain critical national infrastructure on behalf of UK energy transmission and distribution network owners. You will join our growing Gas Infrastructure Engineering team and this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical and project delivery skills while working on a wide range of energy infrastructure projects including natural gas transmission and distribution systems, gas terminals, pressure reduction stations, compressor stations, hydrogen network, Carbon capture infrastructure and biomethane injection schemes.

The successful candidate will receive structured mentoring and hands‑on experience across feasibility studies, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and asset modification projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Engineering Design & Analysis

• Support the development of mechanical engineering designs for gas infrastructure projects.
• Assist in preparation of equipment specifications, datasheets, and engineering calculations.
• Participate in the design of Pipelines and pipework systems, Pressure regulating and metering stations, Compressor stations, Biomethane injection facilities, Above Ground Installations (AGIs), CO2 pipeline
• Review vendor documentation and technical submissions.
• Assist with material selection and equipment sizing activities.
• Assists in procurement
• Assists in temporary works design

Project Delivery

• Support engineers in the delivery of project milestones.
• Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews.
• Contribute to project schedules and deliverable management.
• Produce engineering reports, calculations, and technical documentation.

Site & Construction Support

• Attend construction sites to gain practical understanding of installation activities.
• Assist with site surveys and asset verification.
• Support commissioning and start‑up activities.
• Participate in safety observations and lessons learned exercises.

Learning & Development

• Develop understanding of: UK gas transmission and distribution systems, Pressure systems engineering, Mechanical design standards and codes, Process safety principles, Asset integrity management.
• Work toward professional registration (IEng/CEng).

Essential Qualifications And Attributes

• Minimum 2.2 Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
