Job summary

RMS Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering company for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer in Darlington. You will join a design and engineering team to support the development of bespoke machinery and robotic automation cells, working across the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of bespoke machinery, robotic automation cells, jigs and fixtures using 3D modelling software.
• Produce 2D manufacturing drawings for components and assemblies.
• Carry out 3D printing of prototype parts and assemblies using Markforged and Bambu Labs printers.
• Assist with component research and selection.
• Support the assembly of jigs, fixtures and tooling in a workshop environment.
• Attend customer sites as required.

RMS Recruitment is working with a leading engineering company that supplies bespoke automation systems to blue-chip manufacturing companies. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative design and engineering team in Darlington.

Location: Darlington, Co. Durham

Salary: £26k - £30k per annum

Working hours: Monday to Friday 7:30AM to 4PM

Contract: Permanent position, fully office based.

You will support the design and development of bespoke machinery, robotic automation cells, jigs and fixtures, gaining hands‑on experience across the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of bespoke machinery, robotic automation cells, jigs and fixtures using 3D modelling software
• Produce 2D manufacturing drawings for components and assemblies
• Carry out 3D printing of prototype parts and assemblies using Markforged and Bambu Labs printers

About You

Applicants must hold a degree in Mechanical, Design or Automotive Engineering.

We are looking for a motivated graduate who can demonstrate as many of the following as possible:

• Experience with 3D modelling software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks or Inventor
• Understanding of engineering drawings and tolerancing
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication and additive manufacturing
• Awareness of material types and their applications
• Knowledge of automation, pneumatics and mechanical systems
• A strong interest in automation and engineering innovation
• Excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn
