Job summary

Textron Specialized Vehicles, at Ransomes Jacobsen in Ipswich, is seeking a Design Engineer I. You will deliver high-quality mechanical designs across projects, under guidance of senior engineers, and contribute to reliable, manufacturable solutions that meet performance targets and regulatory requirements.

You’ll create drawings and BOMs, apply standard components, collaborate with manufacturing, perform basic CAE/FEA analyses, and help develop test plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline, ideally Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with a range of materials (steels, plastics, alloys).
• Exposure to prototyping, testing, or design-for-manufacture processes desirable.
• Knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA.

Responsibilities

• Produce mechanical designs that meet defined technical, performance, reliability, and cost requirements.
• Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions and technical publications.
• Apply best-practice design principles using in-house standards and standard components.
• Work with Manufacturing/Production to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective to manufacture.
• Ensure design compatibility with adjacent components and broader system architectures.
• Perform basic CAE/FEA analyses to support design decisions and identify improvements.
• Incorporate mistake-proofing and clear visual guidance into designs.
• Collaborate with other engineers and departments on new concepts.
• Interpret and apply relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support documentation and design compliance with quality/safety expectations.
• Assist in test plan development and validation activities.
